Five things to do May 1-May 7

Here are five fun and free things to do this week for kids and families across Sarasota and Manatee counties to stay fit and keep reading.

1. Families are invited to join the Sarasota Memorial Hospital team maternal/infant services and the Preeclampsia Foundation, for the Sarasota Promise Walk to raise awareness about the potentially severe illness many pregnant mothers experience. Includes face painting, games and prizes.

When: Sat. May 6; 7 to 10 a.m.

2. Free Comic Book Day!

When: Sat. May 6; all day.

Where: Drop into any Manatee or Sarasota County library for a free comic book while supplies last and feel free to wear your favorite superhero costume. Free comics books will also be available at The Dark Side comic book store.

3. Primary Readers - Early Edition

Kindergartners, first- and second-graders leap into independent reading. We’ll be connecting activities and talks with stories we read. Snacks provided. Reserve your space and get your book early.

4. Children and families are invited to join Barnes & Noble for Storytime: reading, singing and activities.

5. ROAR! Ringling Order of Art Readers

Stories and illustrations are often a child’s first exposure to the joy of reading and the wonder of art. ROAR! is The Ringling’s family storytime designed to engage toddlers. Join for a story and an accompanying activity.
