Help for those affected by Hurricane Irma

Thousands of residents in Sarasota and Manatee counties are still without power. For a break from the heat, a hot, cooked meal, to charge up cell phones and more, check out these resources.

Fill out a Federal Emergency Management Agency application online to be eligible for a $500 disaster relief fund and a hotel room.

All are welcome to an Irma relief cookout Friday, Sep. 15 at the Robert L. Taylor Center, 1845 34th St., Sarasota. Doors open at 3 p.m. and food service is at 4:30 p.m. Enjoy live music and games too.

All are welcome to The Barbershop Men of Prayer free, monthly community cookout Sunday, 2-6 p.m. at Newtown Estates Park.

For those who lost food due to power outages, FPL is accepting food loss claims

From now until Sep. 24, all of the Manatee YMCA branches (Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, and Parrish) will be free to anyone who wants to take a shower, cool off, charge a phone or work out. The Kid Zone will also be open to all.

The YMCA Thrift Shop is also giving out care packages and vouchers to victims of the storm. Please call the store at (941) 212-4652. The Thrift Shop is also running a 50% off sale through Sunday.
